Character: Sorbitol also called D-sorbitol, D-Sobit and D-Sorbite, is a kind of non-volatile sugar alcohols, with stable chemical characters, it is not easy to be oxidized in air and soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, butanol, cyclohexanol, phenol, acetone, acetic acid and two methyl formamide, slightly soluble in ethanol and acetic acid; sorbitol has cool sweet taste, sweetness is about 50% of sucrose, and with similar calorific value of sucrose.
Applications: Sorbitol is used as food additives, cosmetic raw materials, organic synthesis raw materials, moisturizing agent and stabilizer etc.; in the food industry, can be used as sweeteners, moisturizing agent, chelating agent and modifier, the sweetness is similar with sucrose and not be used by certain bacteria, so it is an important ingredient in the production of sugar free candy and anti caries food, meanwhile as its poor metabolism in elevating blood sugar, so it is widely used as functional sweetener.
